Nate and Trudy Bertram opened the Steam Engine Café in 2025 to provide a place for people to gather, eat, and build relationships. The café offers made-from-scratch, fresh baked pizza and pepperoni rolls, along with freshly made salads and delicious desserts.
The Bertrams relocated with their 5 kids from Columbus, Ohio to McDowell County, West Virginia in 2013. With experience in foodservice, a love for pizza, and a desire to be an integral part of the community, they have converted Northfork's old Dinner Bucket restaurant into the Steam Engine Café, bringing a measure of hope to the area.
